Drs. Maral Skelsey, Gary Peck, Elena Allbritton and Felisa Lewis

Dr. Maral Skelsey and the general dermatology team she supervises serve the Washington DC metropolitan area including Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville and greater Montgomery County.

The philosophy of the Dermatologic Surgery Center is to utilize the very latest science and up-to-date research and to treat the entire patient—not just the skin. We obtain a complete medical, social and often dietary history. We keep abreast of new developments in dermatology and general medicine, as well as in alternative medicine.

Dr. Skelsey works closely with Gary Peck, MD in the evaluation and management of the Center’s medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatologic patients.

Dermatology clinical expertise

In considering all common and complex general dermatologic disorders including acne, psoriasis and eczema we thoroughly review the environmental, hormonal and nutritional factors that can affect these conditions. For acne we provide alternatives to antibiotic therapy including blue light treatment.

Evaluation and treatment of warts, skin tags, birthmarks, skin malignancies including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. Mole evaluations and skin cancer screenings may utilize Melafind technology if necessary

Skin rejuvenation using cosmetic injectables and lasers, including laser hair removal. Our goal is natural restoration and enhancement – never to change or alter the appearance.

Pediatric dermatology with a special emphasis on evaluation of birthmarks and hemangiomas. We are able to use Melafind and Dermtech technology to more precisely monitor birthmarks, allowing us to reduce unnecessary biopsies.

Alopecia areata and other disorders of hair growth. Dr. Skelsey completed a fellowship in hair disorders at University of California San Francisco with Dr. Vera Price and is actively involved in hair research and with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. We utilize the latest technology in laser hair removal.

Geriatric skin care, women’s dermatology and traveler’s dermatoses. We specialize in preventative care, working with our patients to anticipate skin conditions that occur in different states of health as well as in varying environments.

Blue light therapy

blue-light

Blue light treatment may be used to treat mild to moderate acne. The treatments are painless and involve sitting with your face close to a blue light source for short 17 minute sessions. Over time, this therapy reduces a certain type of acne-causing bacteria, p. acnes, in the skin and the acne is improved. This treatment may also reduce the need for oral medications, like antibiotics, which can lead to unwanted side effects. Please call our office to set up a consultation to discuss whether this treatment is right for you, 301-652-8081.
