Chemical Peels

Three levels of exfoliation that improve facial appearance and condition by removing damaged tissue. Peels are suitable for all skin types. The mildest peel improves pigment irregularities, acne and uneven skin tone and texture The medium depth peel helps to even skin tone as well as fine lines, and some superficial precancerous lesions known as actinic keratoses. The most intense peels can also help to reduce scarring from acne as well as wrinkles.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

A procedure that uses a photosensitizing drug to apply light therapy selectively to target pre-skin cancer, acne and sun damage. PDT can help clear the skin of premalignant growths known as actinic keratoses which occur mainly on the face, chest, arms and hands. It is also effective for moderate-severe acne. A series of treatments can put acne into remission for months as well as improve some scarring without taking oral medications. There are many less common conditions that PDT can be used for, including hidradenitis suppurativa, Bowen’s disease, and superficial basal cell carcinoma.

Melafind®

This breakthrough device is used during a skin exam to help dermatologists see under the skin’s surface. MelaFind® collects information from 2.5 mm deep into the skin, painlessly and non-invasively using computer vision technology. It is a clinically validated, objective system to help Dr. Skelsey in deciding whether or not to biopsy atypical moles.

Mole Removal

Your mole will be removed under local anesthesia. A microscopic test will be done of the mole tissue to check for possible cancerous cells. Surgical sutures or stitches may also be required.

Acne Scar Removal

Acne scars are usually caused by inflammation at a cellular level that causes darkened or lightened pigmented areas, disruption of collagen fibers and an overproduction of scar tissue. If this inflammation alters the collagen structure, an unsightly scar may develop. Dr. Skelsey will evaluate your scarring and then work to improve it, using the appropriate procedure determined by the severity and type of your scars.

Skin Cancer Prevention

In addition to photodynamic therapy (PDT), there are now topical creams and, for some patients, oral medications that can be combined with lifestyle changes to help reduce the incidence of skin cancer. Dr. Skelsey will discuss with you the measures that are best for you.
